Good evening!
Currently, processing times are not 'normal". Expect delays due to COVID-19. However, under the normal circumstances the wait for a green card interview is approximately 8-10 months in LA. Could be longer or faster, depending on your city. Every sponsor requires to file Form I-864, an Affidavit of Support. However, if father and son reside together, they can report their combined household income. There is also a new "public charge" regulation, which is rather difficult to overcome if the beneficiary is 55 years or older. Other issues may surface too, so I strongly recommend getting a professional legal advice and retaining a competent immigration attorney to guide you through this maze of current U.S. Immigration law. Best of luck!
Hello,
My friend has been living in USA for 25 years. He has a son who was born in USA; he is 21 year old and is ready to help his father with citizenship.
Questions:
1. How long is the wait for a green card from the time the package is received?
2. Would my friend need an affidavit of support, considering that he has been living in USA for many years.
3. Is there any other “ifs” and “buts” to consider?
Thank you very much for your time!
Olga
